Who is Jesus (Isa)?
In the Bible and the Qur’an Jesus (Isa) is:
The Word of God:
John 1:1-2 (Gospel/Injil) - “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He (Jesus) was with God in the beginning.”
John 1:14 (Gospel/Injil) - “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.”
Revelation 19:12-13 (Prophecy) - He has a name written on him that no one knows but he himself. He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God.
Sura Al-Nisa/The Women 4:171(Qur’an) - O People of the Book, exceed not the limits in your religion nor speak anything about Allah, but the truth. The Messiah, Jesus, Son of Mary, is a messenger of Allah (God) and His Word which He communicated to Mary and a mercy from Him.
The Spirit of God:
Galatians 4:4-7 (Injil) - But when the time had fully come, God sent His Son, born of a woman, born under law, to redeem those under law, that we might receive the full rights of sons. Because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.” So you are no longer a slave, but a son; and since you are a son, God has made you also an heir.
Sura Maryam/Mary 19:17-21 (Qur'an) - So she screened herself from them. Then We (God) sent to her Our Spirit and it appeared to her as a well-made man. She said: I flee for refuge from thee (you) to the Beneficent, if thou art one guarding against evil. He said: I am only the bearer of a message of thy Lord: That I will give you a pure boy. She said: How can I have a son and no mortal has yet touched me, nor have I been unchaste? He said: So (it will be). Thy Lord says: It is easy to Me; and that We may make him a sign to men and a mercy from Us.
Sura Al-Anbiya 21:91 (Qur'an) - And she who guarded her chastity, so We breathed into her of Our Spirit, and made her and her son a sign for the nations.
Sura Al-Tahrim/The Prohibition 66:12 (Qur'an) - And Mary, the daughter of Amran, who guarded her chastity, so We breathed into her of Our Spirit (Ruhullah), and she accepted the truth of the words of her Lord and His Books, and she was of the obedient ones.
Came from Heaven:
John 16:28 (Gospel/Injil) – ‘I came from the Father and entered the world; now I am leaving the world and going back to the Father.’
Sura Al-Imran 3:49 (Qur'an) - I have come to you with a sign from your Lord.
John 6:48-51 (Gospel/Injil) - I am the bread of life. Your forefathers ate the manna in the desert, yet they died. But here is the bread that comes down from heaven, which a man may eat and not die. I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.
Sura Al Imran/The Family of Amran 3:50 (Qur'an) ….and I have come to you with a sign from your Lord, so keep your duty to Allah and obey me.
John 6:32-33 (Gospel/Injil) ‘…... it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.’
Anointed and Strengthened by The Holy Spirit:
Isaiah 61:1-2 The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the LORD’S favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn.
Acts 10:38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him.
Sura Al-Baqarah 2:87, (Qur'an) “We gave Jesus, son of Mary, clear arguments and strengthened him with the Holy Spirit.”
Sura Al-Baqarah/The Cow 2:253 (Qur'an) We have made some of these messengers to excel others. Among them are they to whom Allah spoke, and some of them He exalted by many degrees of rank. And We gave clear arguments to Jesus, son of Mary, and strengthened him with the Holy Spirit.
A Sign:
Isaiah 7:14 (Prophecy) - Therefore the Lord himself will give a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Emmanuel.
Matthew 12:38-39 (Injil)- Some of the Pharisees and teachers of the law said to him, “Teacher, we want to see a miraculous sign from you.” Jesus answered... “none will be given you except the sign of the prophet Jonah.
Sura Al Imran/The Family of Amran 3:50 (Qur'an) ….and I have come to you with a sign from your Lord, so keep your duty to Allah and obey me.
Sura Maryam 19:21 (Qur'an) - We may make him a sign to men and a mercy from Us.
Sura Al-Anbiya 21:91 (Qur'an) - And she who guarded her chastity, so We breathed into her of Our Spirit, and made her and her son a sign for the nations.
The Messiah (Christ):
Sura Al Imran 3:45-46 (Qur'an) - When the angels said: O Mary, surely Allah (God) gives you good news with a word from Him (of one) whose name is the Messiah, Jesus, worthy of regard in this world and the Hereafter, and of those who are drawn nigh (to Allah). And he will speak to the people when in the cradle and when of old age, and he will be one of the good ones.

Matthew 26:63-64 (Gospel Injil) - The high priest said to Him, “I charge you under oath by the living God: Tell us if you are the Christ (Messiah), the Son of God.” “Yes, it is as you say,” Jesus replied. “But I say to all of you: In the future you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.”
Daniel 7:13-14 (Prophecy) - In my vision at night I looked, and there before me was one like a Son of Man, coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into his presence. He was given authority, glory and sovereign power; all peoples, nations and men of every language worshiped him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed.
Luke 2:10-12 (Gospel/Injil) - But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ/Messiah the Lord.”
Matthew 16:20 and Mark 8:30 (Gospel/Injil) – Then he warned his disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Christ/Messiah.
Matthew 16:13-20 When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is? They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven. And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. Then he warned his disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Christ.
John 4:25-26 – The woman said, “I know that Messiah (called Christ) is coming. When he comes he will explain everything to us.” Then Jesus declared, “I who speak to you am he.”
Born of a Virgin:
Isaiah 7:14 (Prophecy) - Therefore the Lord himself will give a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Emmanuel.
Luke 1:34-35 (Gospel/Injil) – “How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?” The angel answered, The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.

Sura Al Imran 3:42-47 (Qur'an) - And when the angel said: O Mary, surely Allah has chosen you and purified you and chosen you above the women of the world .... She said: My Lord, how can I have a son and man has not yet touched me?
A Boy is Given:
Isaiah 7:14 (Prophecy) - Therefore the Lord himself will give a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Emmanuel.
Isaiah 9:6-7 (Prophecy) - For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David's throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this.
Sura Maryam/Mary 19:19-21 (Qur'an) – He (angel) said: I am only a bearer of a message of thy Lord: That He will give you a pure boy. Thy Lord says: It is easy to Me; and that We may make him a sign to men and a mercy from Us.
The Light of the World:
Isaiah 49:6 (The Old Testament) - I will also make you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring my salvation to the ends of the earth.
John 8:12 (Gospel/Injil) - When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
Sura Al-Nisa 4:174 (Qur'an) - O people, manifest proof has indeed come to you from your Lord and We have sent down to you a clear light (noor).
John 3:19 (Gospel) - This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.
Sura Al-Ma'idah/The Food 5:46- We sent after them in their footsteps Jesus, son of Mary, verifying
that which was before him of the Torah; and We gave him (Jesus) the Gospel containing guidance and light, and verifying that which was before it of the Torah, and a guidance and an admonition for the dutiful.
Risen:
1 Corinthians 15:3-4 (Injil) - Jesus “Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures: that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures.”
Sura Maryam/Mary 19:33-34 (Qur'an) - Peace on me the day I was born, and the day I die, and the day I am raised to life. Such is Jesus son of Mary -a statement of truth about which they dispute.
Exalted:
Philippians 2:9-11 (Injil) - Therefore God exalted Him to the highest place and gave Him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Sura Al-Nisa 4:158 - Nay, Allah exalted him (Jesus) in His presence.

Sura Al-Imran 3:55 (Qur'an) - When Allah said: O Jesus, I will cause you to die and exalt you in My presence.
2 Timothy 4:1 (Injil) - In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge.
Sura Al-Nisa 4:158 - Nay, Allah exalted him (Jesus) in His presence.
Coming Back for Judgement Day:

They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.”
Revelation 1:7-8 says, Look, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him; and all the peoples of the earth will mourn because of him. So shall it be! Amen. “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.”
Sura Zukhruf 43:61-63 (Qur'an) - And this (Jesus/revelation) is surely knowledge of the Hour, so have no doubt about it and follow me.
